• Prosecutor, public attorney among the eight victims
A GROUP of thieves, possibly a syndicate, victimized eight people in this city on one single day last Wednesday, August 11, carting away with them around half-million worth of properties.
First to call in his complaint was court employee Blasmeyer “Boy” Baul. He reported that thieves struck his row of apartments at around 9:00 AM, the tenants of who were not around that time and were at work.
His tenants included assistant city prosecutor Gorgonia Pineda-Encina, public attorney Herbert Renomeron, Bangko de Oro employee Melody Mei Yap and businesswoman Melissa Sue Sanoria.
Fiscal Encina reportedly lost her DVD player. Ms Yap reported she lost a laptop computer worth P72,000, a digital camera worth P30,000 and jewelries and valuable things worth around P90,000.
At basically the same time, at San Pedro Street, another group struck the house of Helen Vertudaso. It was not learned as of press time what she lost.
At around 10:00 AM, Lilibeth Yap, owner of an apartment at Carlos Tan Street complained that the unit being rented by one Annie Verano was ransacked.
Following closely was the report of Engr. Vanessa Serano who is renting an apartment at Bonifacio Street. Her apartment was also ransacked but did not declare what she lost.
Meanwhile, PO3 Mark Alexis Ruita and members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives are investigating the thefts. Initial investigation disclose from neighbors yielded that during the period the apartments were ransacked, they saw nicely dressed people in the vicinity.
The police surmise that the thefts are the handiwork of a syndicate who break into empty houses during the day. To avoid suspicion, they come well dressed and bejeweled, to pass themselves off as relations of the house or apartment tenants to the eyes of the scrutinizing public. By Paul Libres
