Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez and LTO regional director Camelo Guarin does a ceremonial cutting of the ribbon of the asphalt overlay project at Hermosilla Drive in Ormoc. By R. Cambaya

ORMOC CITY – Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez began her first district visit this year on January 9, Monday, by opening roads that she helped obtain funding for in several areas in the 4th congressional district of Leyte.
Asphalt Overlay
The congresswoman, together with 4th District Engineering officials led by Engr. Lino Gonzales, and representatives of the Land Transportation Office led by regional director Camelo Guarin, led a ribbon-cutting ceremony near the Malbasag Bridge for a ceremonial opening of Hermosilla Drive with asphalt overlay from Agua Dulce to District 28.
Barangay chairmen allied to the congresswoman also accompanied her in her various visits.
District Engineer Lino Francisco Gonzales said that the asphalt overlay spanned 714 meters. Really bad portions of the road, which is often used as a diversion route for sugarcane trucks and prime movers, were re-blocked before it was overlain with asphalt, and the congresswoman lobbied for the funds from the road board. Gonzales proudly added that the road was supposed to be finished on February 2012 yet, but was finished well in advance in December.
More specifically, Lucy announced, the project that was contracted for 90 days was finished in just a few days. “Mao ni serbisyo sa mga Gomez,” she explained. “We only work with a small team, but we are a lean and mean team.”
People who often pass by the road have also noted the fast implementation of the project, done mostly at night to minimize disturbance to the traffic. The contractor also made sure the proper public safety warnings were put up.
Rehabilitations
After the ceremonial inauguration at Hermosilla Drive, the congresswoman hopped off to a groundbreaking ceremony of the rehabilitation of the damaged paved national road along the Ormoc-Albuera road.  Some P5.8-million was earmarked for the budget, to cover 2,470 square meters and to be finished in less than 3 months.
Gonzales hopes to finish the project before the contracted three months. Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez added that her administration worked with “the right project, right cost, and right quality” in mind.  “And I assure you, always within the right time, ” she added.
The ribbon-cutting for the construction and rehabilitation of the Macabug-Mabini Mahayahay Farm-to-Market Road was the congresswoman’s next stop. With a P 5-million budget, the project is scheduled to be finished on February 14, but was finished already late in December, Gonzales said.
“Instead of a Valentines’ gift, this became a Christmas gift,” the Congresswoman quipped.
Gonzales added that the project was in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, and covered 175 meters in Macabug and 300 meters further on in Mabini. He saw the possibility of tourism with these projects in the area, because there is a golf course nearby.
The congresswoman acknowledged the good, speedy work of Gonzales and his team, which she reminded everyone, gained them an award from Secretary Singson himself as the Best Engineering District in the region.
“I hope that will inspire us, too,” she said. “Ampingi ni ninyo, hinaut unta nalipay mo; see you at the inauguration of the next project.” To which Brgy. Captain Marina Placido and residents replied, “nalipay ui!” By Mutya Collander

who among the codilla are you referring allan? the way you construct your imaginative words in this blog is highly irresponsible yet non sense, if there is one person who is in a panic mode right now it is not the codilla’s but lucy torres herself? why i will give you an example, former dodong codilla during his term has never brought to the media’s attention in terms of his accomplishments, people of the district can attest that if he deliver the good news or not, if the people becomes satisfied or desatisfied then be it, now what lucy torres did she paid local newspaper to publish her projects and all nice accomplishments to deliver the good news to the people, when in fact this projects should be expedite and properly implemented by the DPWH not just because it was initiated by lucy but by the direct orders of the Secretary of public works and highways and by the President of the Republic of the Phil., alam mo allan with all due respect ang mga tao sa 4th district matatalino, at marunong mag isip, kahit anu pang paninira gawin ng amo ninyo kay codilla or may i specifically say Dodong Codilla, matatawa na lang talaga, what else do you want you were given the full mandate by the people to rule and especially to serve by the power of constitution pero kung patuloy na fishing expedition ang inyong stlye ng pamamalakad, eh wala kayong pinag ka iba sa mga TRAPO na mga Pulitiko na inihahambing din ninyo sa inyong katung gali bilib na sana ako kay lucy even though she is still in a question with here legitimation as a representative but politics in our country is very dirty and i believe that lucy torres is not the person na taga ormoc na maka diyos ant hindi sinungaling kung hindi isa na din siya sa mga TRAPO sa ating govyerno.

hi all..i think we will just be happy that there is something done..projects are no longer laid on papers but becomes visible…let us respect and honor both leaders in the past and in the present..the past was there for a reason and a purpose..the present is there because that’s God meant her to be..i ask all to give high regard to our leaders in the land and instead of comparing, let us pray for all of them that they will have an uncommon wisdom in leading the people..

God bless us all!

to metchili..i understand your point but as concerned citizen of this country..it is our responsibility to expose the ineffectiveness of certain govt officials for the good of our countrymen..when lucy assumed office ..she saw some infrastructure projects that were left unttended even when they were fully paid..and the contractors happened to be a relative of codilla..IM SORRY ..respect is earned not given!

To carlo..open your eyes.it is not the fault of lucy torres if her many projects in ormoc are being approved by the DPWH..her projects are mostly approved because she is known for her credibility, decency and honesty..dpwh knows that the money that will be used for her projects will be used for the people..and will not be pocketed ..as simple as that..see the difference..open your eyes and dnt be blinded by your loyalty to ERIC CODILLA..

hi allan, thank you so much for the enlightenment, going back to the topic, you said to your piece that codilla’s are in a panic because of what lucy torres have made so far in her constituency, i may have agree with you that lucy is making progress in in a short period of time although we know that her husband really does the real work for her in congress, a husband and wife tandem kung tawagin, parang sa impeacment trial you call this as a “class of its own” bakit kamo, dahil mas may boses pa ang chief of staf kaysa congresswoman, oo alam na namin ang tunay na ugali talaga ni goma.

now ang point ko lang naman allan, and i really don’t mind if you care about it, is when the torres family enter into politics in our district, ano ba ang battle cry nila? diba to fight corruption? corruption made by their opponent? so given the chance and mandate by the people of district 4 in leyte, eh dapat lang suklian naman nila ng maayos at matinong leadership din diba? dahil yan ang trabaho na dapat i pakita nila, pero ang pag serbisyo nila eh gagawin pa ding TELESERYE at PELIKULA? at ang nakakatawa yung inyong ginawa dati sa anak ni CODILLA, eh ginagawa na din ninyo ngayun sa isang anak ni CODILLA ang tanong ang mga CODILLA ba ang nag panic o ang mga TORRES?

Matatwag mo bang decency yan Allan, now that under her watch may mga kabulastugan pa din?

Hoy Carlo,

Alam mo, sa apat na mahahabang paragraph naisinulat mo nothing made sense. As in, walang laman, no content, nada.

Kabalo ka maski unsaon nimog pangita ug sayop kay Lucy or kang Richard in the hopes that that will cover up for the shortcomings of the Codillas, your words will be futile against hard evidence of Lucy’s various completed projects mushrooming in her district. And you know what? If the Gomezes are able to keep this up no doubt they will be quite a tandem to contend with in the national level. And make no mistake, this will leave a very big impression on the voters’ mind in the coming election, to quote you “matatalino ang mga tao sa 4th District”. So for sure the Codillas are crapping in their pants right now. About time no, they have sucked the city dry long enough. Tama na, sobra na, palitan na!

To quote Allan, open your eyes, swallow your pride and take a hard look at where your loyalties lie. Ask yourself are you going to be part of the solution of the problem or just stay in the sidelines, nitpick at the imagined mistakes of somebody who is working hard to better her district and stay the crab that you are now?
